My wife, Kathy, and I returned to Britain in October of 2016, spending 6 wonderful days in Edinburgh, a few days in London, and a day visiting Stonehenge and the area nearby. We traveled by train, not rental car or bicycle this time. It was really wonderful.Seth Kriegerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11065975231207655740noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059236482314422053.post-59874058841277134522015-07-21T17:15:05.301-04:002015-07-21T17:15:05.301-04:00In retrospect, going North instead of South would ...In retrospect, going North instead of South would have worked pretty well, as I am pretty sure that the weather improved markedly after that first week of June, and it was nice that week in the South. Although it was clear in my research that most riders started down in Cornwall, I could not find any reason for that preference. In addition, our travel arrangements seemed easier if we started in Scotland. <br /><br />My wife and I will definitely be traveling in the UK in the future; we got just a taste this time but would like the full meal! We are both Doc Martin nuts, so we did a pilgrimage to Port Isaac (Portwen) and hiked around the ruins in Tintagel. There were new jaw-droppingly beautiful views every few steps. Really spectacular. To paraphrase Arnold, "We'll be back!"<br />Sethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15633883709373331196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5059236482314422053.post-55621640526651398402015-07-21T04:25:52.518-04:002015-07-21T04:25:52.518-04:00As a UK cycle tourist I really enjoyed reading thi...As a UK cycle tourist I really enjoyed reading this blog & do hope you get to enjoy Scotland in better weather on a future trip.<br />My advice would be: LEJOG. It is considered 'uphill' but in fact you are more likely to benefit from prevailing South-Westerly (tail) winds. You can't control the weather but you can stack the deck in your favour.
